DEFINING ACCESSIBILITY

Defining Accessibility

At Voice of Albertans with Disabilities (VAD), accessibility means the removal of barriers that prevent people with disabilities from fully participating in society.

We align our approach with the Accessible Canada Act, which guides our efforts to increase awareness, promote education, and support inclusive practices across all areas of community life.

VAD offers support and expertise in improving accessibility across the following key areas:

    • Employment Needs
Creating inclusive hiring practices and accessible workplaces.

    • The Built Environment
Ensuring physical spaces are navigable and barrier-free.

    • Information & Communication Technologies
Promoting access to digital content, websites, and communication tools.

    • Procurement of Goods, Services & Facilities
Encouraging accessible procurement policies and inclusive service delivery.

    • Design & Delivery of Programs & Services
Advising on how to make public and private services accessible to all.

    • Transportation Needs
Advocating for accessible, safe, and reliable transportation options.

Together, we work to break down barriers and build a more accessible Alberta for everyone.
