Voices Connect: Connection and belonging matter

Social connection is an important part of well-being. For people with disabilities, opportunities to build friendships and take part in community life can be limited by barriers such as inaccessible spaces, transportation, communication gaps, cost, or fewer activities during the winter months.

Voices Connect is focused on reducing social isolation and loneliness by supporting accessible social connections, community participation, belonging and peer relationships. Connection can begin with a conversation, a shared interest, a welcoming activity or a chance to meet someone who understands a similar experience.

Inclusion takes more than inviting people to attend. Activities and spaces need to be welcoming and accessible, and people need practical ways to take part. Listening to participants and working with community partners can help identify barriers and make connection easier.

As the colder months approach, we encourage everyone to think about simple ways to stay connected: check in with someone, share information about an accessible activity, or let a community group know what would help you participate. Every person deserves the opportunity to feel included and to have a place in community life.

VAD Community, the wait is over! Our first of twelve (12) VOICE CONNECTS sessions takes place on December 2nd at 6:30 PM!

What’s on the agenda? For this first session, we’ll keep it simple: introduce the project, check in on how everyone is doing and feeling, and explore spoon theory—a familiar idea we live by but may not fully understand or know the reasons behind. Register and bring your spoons—no forks or knives this time!

As always, follow our social feeds for weekly project updates, find the registration link to share with the disability community, and connect with us!

For your convenience, the registration link is available below.
